Pre-Operative
Instructions
Complimentary
Consultation
Before
you schedule your LASIK procedure, you should have an in depth consultation with
our Laser Vision Coordinator. This
consultation will take approximately 45 minutes.
During this time our Coordinator will tell you what to expect before,
during and after surgery. She will
explain the possible risks and complications involved and will go over the
consent form with you. You will be
sent home with a packet of information on TLC, your surgeon and instructions to
follow before and after surgery.
Dilated
Examination
Once
you have had a consultation, you will have a thorough dilated exam your Rx
Optical Optometrist. Usually the
consultation and exam are performed on the same day to save you time and an
extra trip to our office. At this
exam, our Doctor will initially check your vision as though you are in for a
glasses or contact lens exam. At the
end of this exam, he will put dilating drops in your eyes.
It will take about 30 minutes for your eyes to completely dilate.
These drops will also paralyze your focusing ability.
This will allow him to get a “true prescription” to make sure that
you are not over-focusing for any reason. Once
your pupils are completely dilated he will check the health of the inside of the
eye with a special instrument. If
your vision is stable and your eyes are healthy, we will get you scheduled for
surgery.
Prior
to your dilated exam and procedure, contact lens use must be discontinued to
allow the natural curve of your cornea to return.
We will advise you on the length of time you should be out of them, as it
may vary depending on the type of contact lenses you wear.
At your dilated exam, our Optometrist will write
you a prescription for the anti-biotic drops.
You will be advised to start taking them the night before and the morning
of surgery.
